After surviving a deadly plague outbreak, sixteen-year-old Savannah thought she had lived through the very worst of human history. There was no way to know that the miracle vaccine would put everyone at risk for a fate worse than un-death.

Now, two very different kinds of infected walk the Earth, intent on nothing but feeding and destroying what little remains of civilization. When the inoculated are bitten, infection means watching on in silent horror as self-control disappears and the idea of feasting on loved ones becomes increasingly hard to ignore.

Starving and forced to live inside of the abandoned high school, all Savannah wants is the chance to fight back. When a strange boy arrives with a plan to set everything right, she gets her chance. Meeting Cole changes everything. Mere survival will never be enough.

My Take:

Ever think the world we live in can change and something unexpected happen. Living in a post apocalyptic world is tough even for teens, the out break happened and even though the US government swore to protect, the virus was just to much to keep secure. In Mortality, to better understand the effect, two sides of a story is told through the eyes of two different teens trying to survive. Savannah is the present, her group isn't usually the one to be sent out and gather supplies, but with the way times have been sand supplies limited, her group gets a opportunity to venture into Z's territory. Taking down zombies might be all make believe in our world, but with the outbreak survival is key. Along the way Cole shows up with wanting her help to protect him and hope for a future.

Zarah is the past, she tells us what happened and what the government tried to prevent, who knew one normal day of school and the next thing you see is a neighbor trying to tear your skin off. Getting to her parents is the main thing on her mind, of course without an idea of where they could be, getting to them could be tougher than she thought. Even though she would have never thought getting on a bike with a boy, that is the last thing she needs to be worried about. Of course it helps that Liam did smile at her before the world changed in those two seconds. But when the government offers a safe bet Zarah and Liam take what they can get, except of course they didn't know once bitten they turn into super smart Zs and that is more scarier than any thing.

Both Savannah and Zarah understand that with some help their course can change. This was an amazing story in that it reminded me of so many different zombie movies and it kept up with good story telling. Savannah had some skills and even though she is young her character saw development, and showed some strength in a lot of places. Zarah had strength also to venture on not knowing if her parents were alive, hope is strong and my guess she has that hope along her journey. I can not wait to see what else happens, so if your into Zs than this is definitely one for you to pick up.

Lexi is cursed with a dark secret. The water calls to her, draws her in, forces her to sing her deadly song to unsuspecting victims. If she succumbs, she kills. If she doesn't, the pain is unbearable. To keep herself and those she cares about safe, she shuts herself off, refusing to make friends or fall in love-again. Because the last time she fell in love with a boy, he ended up dead.
Then Lexi finds herself torn. Against her better judgement, she's opening up agian, falling in love with someone new when she knows she shouldn't. But when she's offered the chance to finally live a normal life, she learns that the price she must pay to be free or her curse is giving him up.

My Take:
Ever wonder what would happen if your family was cursed, for Lexi life for the last two years hasn't been easy. Every night Lexi must swim in order for the pain to go away every time she skips a day the next day just hurts more. This is whole curse thing happened when she turned 16 and since than she has had to find a way to swim. Lexi is a siren and in order to prevent herself from killing she must venture off and secure herself so that no one dies... again.

On her 16th birthday she had lead a boy who she was in love with into the ocean by the time she knew what she was doing she pulled him out of the ocean and tried to save him. After that day she has put herself as an outcast, she lost all communication with her click and tries to avoid at all costs getting close to someone again. Its now her senior year and with school just starting, Lexi can't help but wonder what life would be like if she was normal. When she starts opening up again and letting down all her defenses she allows to re-join her click and even open up to someone who was always there. Cole is an amazing friend who tries to get Lexi to open up more, and soon she lets him in. But with the threat of the ocean so close and the threat of killing again Lexi knows to keep her distance. Its not until she is offered an escape that she lets in a stranger who tells her the one thing she wishes to be and that is normal. If she is to fall in love than her curse will be lifted but he has to love her as well in order for the curse to lifted. Can love really conquer all or is Lexi in way over her head and should just stay away from any contact.

This was an a good story, I enjoyed the fact that Lexi was able to let someone else in. Love is the biggest emotion that we all take for granted and when she is offered a chance to fall she allows herself. Even though she is terrified she still is up there trying. I can't help but fall for Cole he was so precious, I can just see his smile and even though he was known to be a player he gave it up for Lexi. If thats not romantic than what is. Cole made me feel for him when he was hurting and made me smile when he was happy. Ripple pulled me in as if the ocean was there, the words on the pages were the song and I was lured into the story and it was amazing, it allowed me to feel triumphant when Lexi was up and it made me cry, I found myself having to stop reading because of the emotions I felt when reading Ripple. Mandy wrote a beautiful story she gave us all hope and of corse told us that love can be the ultimate sacrifice you just have to believe.

4/5- it moved me!!!!!!!!

Review: Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Everneath

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.
She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.
As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

My Take:

When you go away you hope to find that your old life is still as you left it, for Nikki Beckett coming back after six months away is still hard on her. While away her friends and family thought that she was lost forever it wasn't until she got back that the pain of losing her was still so very much close. Even though she was gone for six months in the everneath she was bound to Cole for over a century. The only thought she had left that felt like her own was Jack's face. Even though she couldn't put a name to the face she knew she had to get back and find him. It all lead to the fact that she had six months to say goodbye to all that she left behind. Finding out that it was harder for her to say goodbye the only hope she had was for Jack not being mad at her for leaving yet again.

Time is of the essence here and playing against time is a tricky thing so all Nikki has to do and not lose herself is go back willingly with Cole and be forever his and become his queen. Nikki knew she didn't want to be his queen but with her doubts for her future she must decide live forever or be forever lost in the tunnels in the everneath. Forever is along time but with help or her side and time not can she really pull of staying on earth forever and have normal problems and not have to deal with a whole new set of problems. If only life can be like that, with her choices coming back to haunt her Nikki must be prepared for the worst and know that her choices will bring her closer to an end or a new beginning.

I loved this very much because of her choices Nikki gave herself to Cole even when he gave her fair warning. The love shared between Jack and Nikki really got to me it felt like watching the end of the of a really sad love story. It felt like I was there with Nikki telling her to choose wisely even though her choices had big consequences Nikki knew from her past mistakes. I felt the connection between her and Jack and even though it was a story it felt so real, the legend of the daughters was really neat and of course I love me some bad boys but Cole idk he still is growing on me but Jack wow he was my pick for her. Team Jack all the way. This so deserves to be on everyone's top pick for 2012 and everyone should read it. This is the love story that everyone will be talking about all year long.
